Charles R. PorterWHEREAS: Charles R. Porter served as Sanitarian for the State of West Virginia from 1957 to 1959, and
WHEREAS: Mr. Porter has been associated with the Environmental Protection Agency's environmental laboratory in Montgomery, Alabama since 1959, and directed such laboratory since 1969, a laboratory which has been significant assistance and benefit to state radiation control programs, and
WHEREAS: Mr. Porter has been the driving force for the Environmental Radiation Ambient Monitoring System (ERAMS), which has provided states with crucial technical data during radioactive releases to the environment, such as the Chernobyl accident, and
WHEREAS: Mr. Porter provided leadership and guidance in the establishment and implementation of a radium repository at the Montgomery facility, a repository that was invaluable in assisting the states in removing radium from the environment, and
WHEREAS: Mr. Porter was instrumental in the organization, planning, and hosting of the first national meeting of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD) held in Montgomery, Alabama in 1968,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED : Charles R. Porter is hereby recognized and appreciated by the Executive Board of the CRCPD for his assistance and support of state radiation control programs for over thirty years, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED : Charles R. Porter is especially recognized and appreciated for his assistance and support of the CRCPD since its formation.
