Richard A Meserve

 

Whereas:   

Dr. Richard A. Meserve will step down as Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in March 2003, having been appointed the 9th President of the Carnegie Institution of Washington

Whereas:   

Dr. Richard A. Meserve served as Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission from October 1999 to March 2003; 

Whereas:   

As NRC Chairman, Dr. Meserve provided the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD) significant opportunities to partner with NRC in our mutual regulatory missions; 

Whereas:   

His legal experience has enhanced the body of radiation law; 

Whereas:   

His Harvard University Law Degree of 1975 was complemented by his Ph.D. in Applied Physics at Stanford University in 1976, providing him unique qualifications in physics and law;

Whereas:   

He devoted his legal practice to technical issues arising in environmental and toxic tort litigation, counseling scientific societies and high-tech companies, and nuclear licensing;

Whereas:   

He has been a friend to the CRCPD and its members;

Now Therefore, Be It Resolved: 

The Board of Directors herein recognizes his many radiological accomplishments and support to CRCPD; 

Be It Further Resolved: 

The CRCPD Board of Directors wishes Dr. Meserve well in his new position as President of the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
