Relating to: UNIFORM WASTE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM

WHEREAS: Radioactive waste and hazardous waste may in some regional plans be integrated for safe resolution of the total waste problem; and

WHEREAS: The Department of Energy (DOE) has developed a low level waste management plan with considerable national input, including several members of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD); and

WHEREAS: Task Force No. 8 on Radioactive Waste Management found this to be an area that state and federal agencies can move to implement immediately.

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the CRCPD formally propose to the U.S. DOE, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and U.S. Department of Transportation that these agencies develop a uniform radiological waste classification system considering the total hazard and that the states be urged to administer policies for radiological waste disposal under the system.
