CRCPD Resolution [May 20, 1998]
Relating to: Minimum Standards for Persons Who Administer Radiologic Procedures
WHEREAS: The Consumer- Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981 established minimum standards for state certification and licensure of personnel who provide radiologic services, and
WHEREAS: The adoption of these standards was rendered discretionary with each state, and there are no sanctions for noncompliance, and
WHEREAS: Seventeen states have not adopted such standards, and
WHEREAS: The lack of uniform standards nationwide for operators of radiologic equipment poses a hazard to the public and jeopardizes quality health care, and
WHEREAS: The Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD) is a Partnership dedicated to promote consistency in addressing and resolving radiation protection issues, to encourage high standards of quality in radiation protection programs, and to provide leadership in radiation safety and education, and
WHEREAS: The American Society of Radiologic Technologist's (ASRT) supports initiatives designed to protect patients and ensure the safety and diagnostic quality of radiologic examinations, and
WHEREAS: The CRCPD works with the ASRT
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
The Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, supports effort for the establishment and retention of standards to demonstrate competence by reason of education and experience for persons who administer radiologic procedures.
