CRCPD Two Day Mammography Continuing Education Course-2008

Friday, May 16, 2008:  Inspector Day of Digital Training
Saturday, May 17, 2008:  A Day of Learning
Registration

 Registration fees:
2 day session:       $275 for non-CRCPD members;   $250 for CRCPD members
                Friday only:          $175
                Saturday only:      $100

 15 MEUs /at least 12 ASRT CECs

Course Description:
Friday’s
Inspector Day of Digital Training was developed for MQSA inspectors.  Inspectors have been asking for digital training—this is it.  This day will feature some dynamics not at previous CRCPD mammography courses.  It is going to be a very active day–not just didactic lectures.  Not only will Friday cover digital inspection procedures and software questions, it will also include implementation of the procedures and answering the software questions with facility data supplied…simulating a digital inspection.  There will be hands-on problem solving.  Mammography equipment will be available.  And as a bonus and a service to inspectors, each MQSA inspector attending this course will get a new FDA name badge.  Friday’s session is also open to health physicists and other staff in the field of Radiology.  [8:00 A.M. – 4:35 P.M.]

Saturday’s session is titled Mammography--A Day of Learning.  Again, these are topics requested by inspectors, but they should benefit radiologic technologists as well, so we have opened this day to include them.  The two groups being together should enhance the learning experience for both.   [8:00 A.M. – 5 P.M.]

MEUs versus CEUs
The two day course will provide 15 Mammography Education Units (MEUs).  ASRT does not award as many credits for hands-on workshops as they do for lectures, so less than 15 ASRT Category A credits will be available.  All of Friday and Saturday will be submitted to ASRT.

If there are any updates to this information, they will be posted on our website at www.crcpd.org under 2008 Annual Meeting (top menu item on the left).

H-11 Survey Re Facilities Closing/Medical Records
In March 2004, the H-11 Committee on Mammography sent a survey form to Radiation Control Program Directors to obtain a snapshot on a number of issues:

Notification of Closing Requirements
Retention Requirements
Maintaining Access to Medical Records
Maintaining Digital Images
Follow-up Survey for Stereotactic Inspections

The overall theme of the survey was "What do the states have in place right now?"   The final report was made available on CRCPD's website in March 2005.  Click here for the compilation of the responses [  241 KB]

Stereotactic Mammography

A Stereotactic Worksheet and Instructions have been developed by CRCPD's H-11 Committee on Mammography to provide a tool for states to use as a guideline for inspecting these units.  There are currently greater than 3,000 stereotactic mammography units in the United States.  FDA does not currently regulate these units, nor are there plans to do so in the near future.  H-11 Cover Letter.  Clicking on the underscored words will take you to the worksheet, the instructions, and the cover letter.
